About Us

We believe that ordinary people can play an extraordinary role in an emergency.

Established in 2017, Heartstart Malvern is a local charity with one important aim: to increase the chances of survival for people who suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to learn how to save a life. Through our free, hands-on CPR and defibrillator training, we give individuals, businesses, schools and community groups across Malvern and the surrounding villages the skills and confidence to act when every second counts.

Since our launch, we’ve helped more than 7,500 local people and school children learn essential life-saving skills. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve also installed a growing network of public access defibrillators, making this vital equipment available when it’s needed most.

Our dedicated, experienced volunteer trainers help people understand how to recognise a cardiac arrest, perform CPR and use a defibrillator while waiting for the emergency services to arrive. Alongside our training, our Defibrillator Guardians maintain and expand our local defibrillator network, helping to make our communities safer.

At Heartstart Malvern, we’re proud to bring people together around a shared purpose: saving lives. Because the more people who know what to do, and the more defibrillators available in our community, the better the chances of survival.

Aim and Objectives

At Heartstart Malvern our aim is simple: "Increase the chance of survival for anyone in Malvern suffering an out of hospital cardiac arrest."

This will be achieved by:

  • Increasing the early recognition of a heart attack so that a 999 call is made at the earliest opportunity.

  • Increasing the number of people being trained in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) .

  • Increasing the number of people trained to use an automated external defibrillator (AED)

  • Increasing the number of Public Access Defibrillators (PADS) in Malvern

  • Supporting West Midlands Ambulance Service in recruiting, training and equipping more Community First Responders (CFRs)

  • Fundraising to enable all training to be provided free of charge and to purchase and maintain public access defibrillators
